Professor Stephen Worthley new role

professor Stephen Worthley

It is with mixed emotions that I am writing to you to let you know about a new position I have accepted. I will be taking up the role of Executive Manager of GenesisHeartCare, effective from the 1st of May. This means I will be overseeing the entire HeartCare group that Adelaide Cardiology is an integral part of.

We are a national network of over 80 Cardiologists in all mainland states of Australia, looking to deliver health care solutions into China and Europe in the near future. It is a very exciting opportunity to help shape and direct the future of health care and I have been looking for such a leadership role that would provide me this chance.

The role will require me to transition to Sydney and relinquish my private practice. I will continue to perform the interventional procedures that I, in partnership with Dr. Joe Montarello, have helped pioneer at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. This will be one day a week only. I will also continue to foster research in our network across the country. I will be travelling interstate and overseas on a weekly basis.

I will no longer be consulting or looking after patients in hospital. My patients will be cared for by another primary Cardiologist and I would hope, given the shared care they have received through Adelaide Cardiology, and experiences with other Cardiologists in our group already in the past, that you will be comfortable with them finding another Cardiologist in our group. All of their electronic records, procedure reports, operation files and investigations will be immediately accessible. I have contacted all of my patients directly about this. Of course I respect their autonomy in deciding who should care for them as a Cardiologist in the future, at the same time providing a simple solution at our practice should they so desire.

I want to thank you for your trust in me as a Cardiologist with many of your patients and I am confident that the team at Adelaide Cardiology will continue to provide the highest quality care for your patients

With kind regards

Your sincerely

Stephen Worthley
Executive Manager of Genesis HeartCare

"It's research that's going on in the private sector but we have excellent physicians, doctors and hospitals and in fact in Australia we under-utilise the private sector for world-leading research," he says.
